While the recipe isn’t difficult, keeping track of all your books and knowing what Vendor has them can be a little tricky. Luckily Square-Enix did simplify the Vendor menu, so the recipe isn’t quite as obscure to purchase as it was before.
Crafting Your Wind-up Garuda
The easiest way to get this crafting recipe is to head over to Idyllshire in the Dravanian Hinterlands. The Scrip Exchange (Idyllshire, X:6 Y:7) sells the Recipe Book that contains the Wind-up Garuda Minion for the low price of 100 White Scrips. Simply select “White Scrip Exchange (Master Recipes)” from the drop down menu. Pop the Book from your inventory and its contents will be added to your Crafting Log, on the second tab. Now for the even trickier part: gathering all the materials! As you may have guessed, the Minion itself requires a couple obscure and rare materials. It’s likely you haven’t come across these without a bit of effort. No worries, we’ll walk you through getting each one.
Wind-up Garuda Materials & Acquisition
Blood Pepper x 1 – The Blood Pepper required for this recipe can only be acquired through Gardening (or if you’re very lucky, your Retainer can bring you one on a Quick Venture). And by Gardening, I mean cross-breeding – the most fun kind of gardening in XIV. You’ll need two types of seeds to get Blood Pepper Seeds: Glazenut Seeds and Chive Seeds. Here’s what to grow to get those seeds:
Crossbreed Prickly Pineapple (Harvest at 9 AM Eorzean Time in Costa Del Sol, Slot 1) and Old World Fig (Harvest in the Dravanian Forelands at 2 AM/PM ET). Crossbreed Dzemael Tomato (Harvest in Eastern La Noscea at 1 PM ET) with Midland Cabbage (Harvest in North Shroud, any time) to get Dalamud Popotos. Then Crossbreed Dalamud Popotos and Dzemael Tomato to get your Chive Seeds.
Chimerical Felt x1 – Instead of crafting this, you can just purchase it while you’re in Idyllshire. The Scrap Salvager (Idyllshire, X:6 Y:7) sells it for a mere 3,886 Gil. Easy peasy. Crawler Silk x1 – This can also be acquired at the Scrap Salvager for 2,109 Gil. Garuda’s Feather x1 – This one will require a little bit of work. Nothing too difficult, though. This item is acquired as a drop from The Howling Eye (Hard). That’s the second fight with Garuda, and it’s easily farmable solo. Wind Shards x99 – The final ingredient for your Wind-up Garuda, and the only ingredient you’ll need more than one copy of. Also, one final tip since you’re already farming for Garuda’s Feathers: The accessories that drop from The Howling Eye (Hard) can be Desynthesized. Sometimes this process will give you Demimateria of the Vortex. This special Material can be used in several recipes, such as these fancy Plumes of the Vortex. So why not craft two birds with one stone? Happy hunting!
