Once built, it unlocks a mini-game that allows you to craft Metal sheets that are then used for ship and guest house upgrades. Here’s a more detailed breakdown of what you need in order to unlock and build the Smithy in Spiritfarer, as well as how to use it.

Unlocking the Smithy

As the Smithy is one of the more advanced construction buildings in the game, how easy this process will be for you depends on how far you are into the story. Luckily, you can prioritize certain aspects in the game to reach this upgrade faster, although it will still be a lengthy journey. Start by visiting Albert’s Shipyard, found at the coordinates X: 61, Y: 64, near Alt Harbor. You can also get there via the nearest Bus Stop with the coordinates X: 77, Y: 51. Once you’re there, look for the Master blueprint upgrade in the Blueprint Station. As it’s the final upgrade in the Blueprint Station, acquiring all prior upgrades beforehand is required. Here’s what you need to fast-track the process: Once you manage to reach the Master blueprint upgrade, it will unlock the final three buildings: the Cow Stall, Cellar, and of course, the Smithy. Note: Depending on where your progress is, Gustav the spirit will introduce you to the Smithy via The Master Forger request. However, you can build it before then, provided you have the necessary upgrades.

Building the Smithy

The next step is to head back home and unleash your inner blacksmith by visiting the blueprint table atop Stella’s cabin. To start your Smithy construction, you’ll need:

12 silica powder 5 comet powder 5 pulsar ingot 12 ash plank

After gathering the materials, simply find the best spot on your ship for your Smithy and you’re done. Like other buildings in Spiritfarer, making more than one Smithy will double the construction material that you need. However, the buildings will all cost the same once you reach the fourth copy.

Smithy Mini-Game (Smithing)

Like other construction buildings in Spiritfarer, the Smithy also comes with a mini-game. However, it’s one of the trickier examples, and this is how you do it: Step 1: Start by opening the furnace hatch and choosing what kind of metal sheet you want to make. The Smithy will automatically show you which ones are available based on the materials you have. Step 2: After choosing, wait for the furnace timer to finish melting the materials. How long this will be depends on the materials you’re using. Step 3: Once it’s done, the furnace will release a hot glowing ball that Stella will need to flatten. Step 4: Interact with the table and start hammering the ball, making sure to only hit when the hammer is yellow. When it does turn red, pause for a moment until it becomes yellow, and continue hammering. Step 5: Repeat this process until the ball is flattened, after which it will move under some water and become a glass sheet you can take.

Smithy Improvement

At its base level, each pair of items you melt at the Smithy will make one item. However, there is also an available Smithy upgrade that will make it produce two items. The process for this upgrade starts when you find Gustav in Furogawa, where he will give you the “Five Views of Mount Furogawa” questline. This takes you to Susan’s Museum, found at coordinates X: -150, Y: 150. Note: Traveling to the museum requires the Icebreaker ship upgrade from Albert’s Shipyard as well as the double jump ability for Stella. Once you deliver 9 items in Susan’s metals collection, you will get rewarded with the Smithy Upgrade Blueprint, which costs:

1 steel sheet 5 gold ingot 12 XP potion 1 celestial sheet 890 glims

This upgrade then doubles all of the Smithy’s output.

Metal Sheet Categories

The Smithy allows you to make several metal sheets in the game, including: These metal sheets can then be used for various in-game upgrades and accommodation improvements that you’ll discover as the story goes on.
