Tanks become increasingly common as you open new territories in Yara and increase your overall heat level. These behemoths can be the source of a lot of pain. From the hail of machinegun fire to the thudding explosions of their cannon volleys, tanks can mess you up in a hurry.
Since it takes some real effort to track down rocket launchers in FC6, you may find that running from these weapons of war is the best method early on. But this tips and tricks guide will let you in on a few secrets.
Supremos are Your Best Friend
Equip the Exterminador supremo. This is the first supremo backpack you’ll acquire, but it is also one of the best in the entire game. Facing in the general direction of a tank, fire off the Exterminador’s barrage of missiles, which will lock onto your target.
Not only is it a good choice for armored vehicles, but it’s also quite practical for helicopters and squads of soldiers. An all-around good choice.
The only downside is that the Exterminador’s rocket volley doesn’t recharge quickly. Make sure that you’ve killed most of the other enemies around any tanks before using the supremo’s ability.
Shoot the Weak Spots
If you are light on the missile barrages or don’t have the Exterminador equipped, you can rely on good, old-fashioned guns.
Move around to the back of the tank, and you’ll see an exposed fuel can. Shooting the fuel will cause it to explode and reveal the engine. Shoot the engine to destroy it.
This may take a while with machine guns, though it works in a pinch. Grenades, rockets, grenade launchers. and even shotguns do a lot of damage to this area.
Use EMPs
If you’d rather stop these armored vehicles dead in their tracks, then you’ll need an EMP. Far Cry 6’s two EMP weapons are the Volta Supremo and the Zeusito Resolver. Firing either one of these will stop it dead, and you can either continue your mission to liberate Yara unbothered or commandeer the vehicle.
Oddly enough, tanks cannot be commandeered without an EMP. After firing your EMP, you can climb on top of the tank and interact with the commander’s hatch to get the hijack prompt. Since the tank is disabled, you won’t be able to drive it for 10 seconds or so, leaving you temporarily vulnerable to enemy units.
